Becoming True Disciples of God:
Loving One Another: Week 3
Scripture(s):
“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill." — Matthew 5:16 (MSG)
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." — John 13:34-35 (NKJV)
"If anyone boasts, 'I love God,' and goes right on hating his brother or sister, thinking nothing of it, he is a liar. If he won’t love the person he can see, how can he love the God he can’t see? The command we have from Christ is blunt: Loving God includes loving people. You’ve got to love both." — 1 John 4:20 (MSG)
Reflection:
Love is the defining characteristic of a disciple of Jesus. Jesus showed us the ultimate act of love by laying down His life for us. In the same way, we are called to love one another with that same sacrificial love. By this love, the world will know that we are His disciples. Let us be intentional in showing the love of Christ to those around us—whether it be family, friends, or strangers.
💡Ask God to fill your heart with His love for others and to help you show that love in practical ways each day.
